Let's Ride! Public art at Houston's light rail stations, April 24, 2004

GRASSROOTS offered art educators, artists, and community members along for a ride on Houston's new light rail system to view and discuss the public artworks on display at various stations.
Attendees discussed how artists involved in Houston's light rail project participated as part of the station design teams, working to find artistic design solutions that reflect the locations of individual stations, and the diversity of people, activities, history and future of the communities along the line.
After the ride, we listened to artist Floyd Newsum's perspective and had a chance for lively discussion of light rail public art projects and the idea of public art in general.
